Day 1: Hello Japan! @ 02:59

Hello everyone! This is Zi Ning and I’m here to share with you our first day in Chiba, Japan!

Our group met up at 6AM, checked in and enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Changi Airport.

Goodbye hot and humid Singapore, hello cool and windy Japan!

After touchdown at Haneda Airport, the team was greeted by Mr Victor Hazen and Mr Takanora Hiraki. Then, we embarked on a 2 hour bus ride to Choshi!

The picture was taken at 5:08pm! The average sunset time in Chiba is 5pm, which is 2 hour earlier than the sun set time in Singapore!

So after the 2 hour bus ride, we finally reached the Ryokan (a type of traditional Japanese inn that originated in the Edo period) Dakshin Inn! This building actually contains remnants from the historic Showa period.

This is one of the public areas where we may wear yukata and talk with the other visitors who are also staying in the Inn. This is the camping ground for us to use their wifi that we painstakingly searched for too!

Our sentō (communal bath).

It is a new experience for me as this is the first time I've been to a sentō. There are buckets, stools and only one shower head available.

We also met some Japanese people who came to the Inn specially for the bath to relax after work. Some of them were also kind enough to teach a few of us the proper way of wearing a Yukata.

Our dining place which was beautifully decorated by the very friendly lady in charge.

Our sumptuous dinner.

This ryokan uses fish from the area to provide guests a fresh and unique dining experience. In my opinion, this is the best tuna Sashimi I had in the 10 days I spent in Japan.

The girls sleeping area.

Instead of sleeping on beds, we slept on futon, which is a traditional Japanese bedding. It consists of padded mattresses and quilts that are pliable enough to be folded and stored away during the day, which allows the room to serve for purposes other than as a bedroom.

I was extremely excited when I came to know that we had to try sleep in a futon, as I have only seen them on the television and have never tried it.

And this concludes out first day spent in Japan. :)
